A sea turtle, nicknamed Bassoon, arrived in Baltimore after getting stranded in Cape Cod along with 29 other turtles. The National Aquarium noticed that he was unable to open his jaw, leaving him unable to eat.

After a CT scan, he was diagnosed with myositis of the jaw muscles. Bassoon received localized anti-inflammatory injections followed by Physical therapy and acupuncture to help reduce pain and inflammation.
Intially, Basson was receiving acupuncture treatments daily, but within a few weeks, he made enough progress that they weren’t needed anymore. The Aquarium’s Animal Health experts report that he is now much more alert and active than he was upon arrival. The Aquarium team is optimistic that Bassoon will make a full recovery and then released back in the ocean.
